Do you or someone you care for need a bit of assistance getting in and out of the tub? Walk-in tubs are an ideal solution if you need a little help, or if it’s not safe for you to use a regular tub. Anyone affected by mobility issues or a disability can benefit from the additional safety features like grab bars and slip-resistant flooring, among other features that can be modified to fit your situation.

Walk-in tubs also provide symptom relief for a number of conditions such as:

  • Arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Poor circulation
  • Anxiety.

The benefits of this style of tub are numerous, but there are some misunderstandings about walk-in tubs that may prevent you or a loved one from considering them as an option. Here are four of the most common misconceptions about walk-in tubs and the truth behind each.

1. They’re not affordable

This is one of the top misconceptions you’ve likely heard – walk-in tubs are expensive. The truth is that the overall cost for a tub like this is quite reasonable even when you consider the installation, which isn’t more than what it would cost to install a regular tub.

Additionally, walk-in tubs are designed specifically to help you remain independent and avoid the high costs of an assisted living facility or other care center —costs which can add up quickly. By comparison, a walk-in tub is a small investment that will help you or your loved one live independently at home.

2. You need more water to fill the tub

Another common misconception is that walk-in tubs are much larger, require more water and therefore need an additional water heater to be able to fill them. Realistically, unless you prefer or require a larger tub, walk-in tubs aren’t much larger than your standard bathtub. They also don’t require the use of more water, a second water heater or additional plumbing.

3. You need to stand up

False! One of the many benefits of a walk-in tub is that you can safely sit or lie down without worrying about whether you’ll be able to get back up, and you won’t need additional assistance to do so. While you can certainly stand up if you prefer, as the slip-resistant flooring will help with balance and safety, a walk-in tub is specifically designed with features such as an adjustable showerhead so that you can stand, sit or lie down comfortably and truly relax.

4. It takes a long time to fill and drain

The last thing you want to do is sit in a cold tub while you wait for it to fill or drain out. While the size of the bathtub and strength of water pressure may affect how quickly the tub fills up, generally it doesn’t take any longer than a regular bathtub. There are also heated features, such as a heated seat, and ergonomic controls available to help keep you warm throughout your bath.

Walk-in tubs are designed to completely drain, and efficiently at that. Many models won’t allow the door to open unless all water is gone and may also come equipped with a second drain or other drainage options to ensure all of the water escapes quickly.

For example, our drains have a high flow tap and a 2-inch quick drain to allow for easy and fast filling as well as exceptionally quick draining.
